Public safety
These charts count reports taken by the Memphis Police Department, from the city's
public safety incidents data, which updates every morning and starts in 2020.
They cover the City of Memphis only, not the suburbs or unincorporated Shelby County.
Other official sources count differently, so their numbers will not match these. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
(CrimeInsight) includes sex crimes and reports rates per
100,000 people; the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission publishes those
figures each quarter for Memphis and the whole county; and the FBI's
Crime Data Explorer counts each victim rather than each incident.
Memphis Safe Task Force
The federal-state task force began operating in Memphis in late September 2025. It does not publish a data feed;
these running totals are from U.S. Marshals Service press releases and have not been independently checked.
Arrests are not convictions. The MPD charts below include the months before and after it began.
